While our standard off-the-shelf parts help to establish a starting point in the “proof of concept” stage of your project, customers often require a custom solution, as we said before, that is our specialty! Possible reasons for customizing a pressure sensor are:
Custom fittings to fit into your vessel
- Exotic materials such as Inconel pressure sensors for use with nearly any fluid
- Non-invasive pressure sensors with custom disposable sets - optimized to minimize pressure drop or hold-up volume
- Unique geometry or maximum pressure
- Adding electronics for custom calibrations or lead-outs, including temperature compensation
- Wireless data transmission such as Bluetooth pressure sensors
Our Custom Pressure Sensor Engineering Process
Step 1: Identifying Your Vision
It is our mission to help make your vision a reality; therefore, we start by interviewing you. In order to develop a unique pressure sensor, we’ll need to know everything we can about your target application. During this step, Non-Disclosure Agreement forms are signed. This enables us to get a good overall perception of the project so that we can avoid any potential issues down the line.
Step 2: Written Project Quotation
Once we understand the overall scope of the project, a written quotation for the prototype deliverables, along with budgetary estimates for standard off-the-shelf parts will be created. The document will also include a breakdown of the design objectives, dates products will be delivered, and costs.
Step 3: Designing Your Custom Pressure Sensor or Assembly
When the quote is agreed upon, Strain Measurement Devices will begin designing your custom pressure sensor. Our design team will work with the information and specifications that you give us to create a design that fits the needs of your ideal application. To ensure that your satisfaction and approval are met, you will get detailed progress updates during different stages of your project
Throughout the entirety of the project, the design process can be as cooperative as you see fit. SMD will take your design specifications and try our best to meet your needs. More often than not, there are engineering tradeoffs, and we want you to be involved in those decisions.
Step 4: Samples
After agreeing upon the initial designs, we will manufacture prototypes for you to evaluate. We will make use of our CNC-machining, stamping, cutting, and etching skills to ensure that you have samples to see in a timely manner. Your feedback is especially important to us during this stage. We will continue to conduct in-house testing, and we’ll incorporate any necessary design changes until we have something concrete to show you.
Step 5: Producing Your Design
After agreeing upon a final design for your custom pressure sensor, we will send the designs to be manufactured in-house.
