SMD Sensors offers modifications of standard parts or custom fluid sensor designs, meeting customers' specific needs. Nearly all our float switches can be customized to accommodate temperature, pressure, depth, materials, fitting, and more parameters. SMD will work with your engineering department to design a liquid level sensor with unique requirements such as multilevel, combined temperature and level, continuous level, high pressure, high temperature, explosion proof, flow sensors, and more. Our 5-Step Process to Create Custom Fluid Switches

Step 1: Meet with You to Understand Your Vision

If you know what type of fluid switch you need, but you don’t know how to make it happen, we are here to help. Our mission is to turn your vision into a reality. By discussing the end goal for your project, as well as ideas on how to get there, we can understand what it is you need and how we can help you reach that goal. Ideas will be shared, usually over conference call, and Non-Disclosure Agreements are signed. At this point in the process we will road map the project and address any potential obstacles so we can create your part as efficiently as possible.

Step 2: Create a Written Quotation for Your Project

Once we have discussed your project and decided what type of part best fits your needs, we will create a budgetary estimate for the prototype, as well as the finished product. The quotation will outline the schedule of the project, the design of the part and the cost of the custom switch.

Step 3:  Start Designing Your Custom Fluid Switch

Once you agree to the quote we have provided, it is time for our engineers to work their magic by taking your specifications and turning them into your ideal fluid switch. As the project progresses, we will schedule many conference calls to make sure everyone is on the same page. The design process can sometimes be complicated. If any trade-offs are needed during the design of the product, we want you to be involved in the decisions that are being made so that your custom fluid switch is optimally designed for your needs.

We can assure you that during the process we will be conducting many failure and risk assessment tests to ensure the part will be durable and long lasting in the required environment. Your satisfaction is the most important to us, so updates can be expected as the product is being fashioned to discuss progress and milestones along the way.

Step 4: Provide You with Product Samples

After you have agreed to the primary design, our engineers can assemble and test prototypes of the design in-house. At this point in the process, your feedback is necessary to make sure the prototype performs to all of your specifications. If changes in the design are needed, we will repeat the process until we have a design that is ready to be sent to production. No matter how many times the prototypes need to be created, we work hard to get your parts ready on time so your final project schedule can be met.

Step 5: Finalize Your Product Design & Send to Production

After you sign off on the final design of your custom fluid switch, the design is production-ready. Once we finalize the documentation, the part can be assembled in our in-house manufacturing facilities and then sent right to you!
