If you manufacture winding or spooling equipment, then you know how important it is for your machines to produce even tensioned yarn. Whether you’re winding wires, cables, or textile cloth, the quality output is always paramount. So, how can you ensure that yarn tension remains constant? By fitting your machines with the right yarn tension sensors.

What Are Yarn Tension Sensors?

Yarn tension sensors are specifically designed to regulate the tension of yarn within textile wire, and cable processing machines.  To monitor and optimize tension, it’s best to employ load cell sensors to accurately determine the spool tension in a machine.

Load cell sensors use gauges to measure the amount of force applied to the load cell. Users monitor this force data in their control system. Whenever a critical force measurement is detected the user is alerted. Load cells also work within winding and spooling equipment through the tightness of the yarn moving through the industrial machine, whether it be too tight or too loose, the load cell will inform you of this based on your customer-specific capacities.

To get the best results with your load cell, you should work with a company that can create a solution that is custom-designed to meet the needs of your application.  Fortunately, SMD Sensors can accomplish this for you. Keep reading to learn more!S100 Load Cell

Which Load Cells Do You Need?

SMD Sensors manufactures a variety of standard load cell parts that are micro in nature that is easily added to industrial equipment. For optimal tension, we recommend the s100 or the S215, both of these sensor lines feature thin-film strain gauges supplying high-quality calculations while capable of being in repeatable measurements.

Signal Conditioner Boards and Load Cells

Our signal conditioner boards pair with our load cells and offer a way for the customer to choose the way their data is reported and recorded. With three different boards, you can receive your load cell information in a number of ways. The E120 Signal Conditioner Board outputs your calculations to a 4 to 20 mA output, and the E110 Signal Conditioner Board allows for an  I²C/VDC or 0 to 5 VDC output.

Computer Data Transfer

If you need help in transferring the force data to your computer, our E370 DSC USB Strain Module allows for easy connections directly to our load cells and connects to your computer via a USB. Users can calibrate the load cell, see the display on their computer, and record (time-stamped) forced data into a computer file.
