Regardless of how advanced internet weather apps may have become, none of them can come close to providing the type of personalized data that weather stations can. Whether you garden as a hobby, or you oversee the mass production of crops for commercial gain–weather stations offer a way for you to monitor and forecast hyper-localized precipitation and humidity levels. If you’ve never utilized a weather station before, then having the ability to know how much water is already on the ground may excite you–and it should.

Nobody wants to overwater their plants after all.  At the same time, you might be wondering: how are weather stations able to deliver such valuable information? Well, weather stations are comprised of many different sensors, but float switches and fluid sensors are arguably the most useful.

Continuous Fluid Level Sensor

Rainfall measuring devices require constant measurements of the rain that is being collected during a storm. Here at SMD we recently developed a continuous float switch that does just that. With one float that moves up and down on a stem with the rising and falling of the liquid in the collection container. Made from durable stainless steel this sensor can preform uninterrupted measurements, making it ideal for weather monitoring systems that are observed 24/7 for data. There are numerous sensors located in the stem of the float that record information that can be accessed through a PC or IOS app on an iPhone or iPad.
